Ayse Altintas’s Laboratory (Altintas Lab) is a specialized research group within the Koç University Research Center for Translational Medicine (KUTTAM) that focuses on neuroimmunology. Our primary emphasis is on idiopathic inflammatory demyelinating disorders of the central nervous system, including Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder (NMOSD), Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein Antibody Associated Diseases (MOGAD), and inflammatory optic neuritis. Led by Prof. Dr. Ayse Altintas, a clinician-scientist, our team comprises experts from various fields such as neurology, neuroscience, and immunology.
Our research endeavors aim to elucidate the pathophysiological mechanisms underlying these disorders through a combination of basic and clinical studies. Our projects explore the role of exosomes, the immunopathological mechanisms of optic neuritis, and the relationship between these diseases and pregnancy. Additionally, we are actively investigating prognostic biomarkers in patient samples and non-invasive biological sources for biomarker discovery. Beyond laboratory research, we are involved in numerous clinical studies and trials.
Altıntaş Lab fosters strong national and international collaborations, partnering with esteemed research centers in Germany, the UK, and the USA.
